We submitted the following paper in BSSA (2024) |
HypoTD ( Horiuchi et al. , 2024) is a new method for determining relative hypocenters by registering multiple template earthquakes. We conducted a relocation of 4.1 million hypocenters of earthquakes that have occurred in and around the Japanese Archipelago over the last 22 years. We compared the hypocenter distributions obtained via the present method with those obtained via the hypoDD method (Waldhauser & Ellsworth, 2000) and concluded that the hypocenters determined via the present method can determine accurate and reliable hypocenters.
Given that this new hypocenter location software will be used in many regions in the future, we are releasing this software for free. We created a website where the distributions of relocated hypocenters can be viewed via 3D display software (Click here).
The software of HypoTD is written in Fortran language. When determining the hypocenter, it is necessary to input arrival time data; however, various formats exist, and format conversion can be troublesome. We created software that converts the following three types of arrival time formats into the hypoTD format:
(1) The JMAfs unified hypocenter measurement data.
(2) Arrival-time picking files in Win format.
(3) The arrival time data used in hypoDD.
